Cupping Tester

TCB Cupping Tester is in accordance with the specification in ISO 1520《Paints and Varnishes—Cupping Test》and the design and manufacture in National Standard GB/T 9753. It is applicable to evaluate crack resistance and detachment from the metal substrate of coated surface which is coated with paint varnish, etc. after the coating layer is gradually deformed under standard condition. It is doing test according to stipulated dent depth to evaluate pass or not pass. Gradually increasing dent depth to determine the smallest depth when the coating appears cracking or detaching from substrate. As the test panel is deformed the coated surface is kept under observation and the point at which the coating cracks or becomes detached from the substrate is noted.

Test Procedure:

1. Preparation of test panel: dry coated test panel according to drying condition and drying time of standard stipulation, then under temperature 23±2℃, relative humidity (50±5)%. It takes at least 16 hours to do state adjusting (In addition to special stipulation), then put into test.

2. Environment temperature: Test should be done under the environment of temperature 23±2℃, relative humidity (50±5)% (In addition to special stipulation).

Usage:
1. Revolving handwheel of Cupping Tester to the bottom following “down” direction (clockwise direction), loosening punch of test panel on the upper part of tester. Insert the test panel coating surface up into the crack, concentric with the punch on the coated side of panel is a corresponding die, tighten the panel punch firmly fixed the test panel on the die.

2.Switch on power on the back of panel, the display apparatus should display 00.00.

3. Revolving handwheel following “up” direction (anti clockwise direction), elevating the punch. When revolving near three circles in about 3 sec. When punch touching is on the test panel, the counter starts to count, the reading of transcriber of the counter is dent depth.

4. Continue to revolve handwheel, reaching the stipulated depth, observing test panel so as to judge whether the test panel is qualified or not; also gradually increasing dent depth to determine the smallest depth when the coating appears cracking or detaching from the substrate.
